There is no need to respond if you are unable to attend the workshop. We will keep everyone on the mailing list and will look forward to seeing many of you who cannot come to Tucson in Switzerland about one year from now (exact dates TBD) for the 4th SSN Workshop. The principal goal of the 4th Workshop will be to have the full 1610-present time series available for final discussion before publication.

Kitt-Peak

1st e-mail Circular on the 3rd SSN Workshop at NSO/Tucson, 22-25 January 2013 Dear Fellow SSN Enthusiasts, The dates are now set for the 3rd SSN Workshop. It will be held at the National Solar Observatory in Tucson, Arizona from 22-25 January 2013 (Tuesday to Friday following the Martin Luther King holiday on January 21).

The primary goal of this workshop is to extend the reconciled SSN time series back from Schwabe (1826) through Staudacher (1750). Additional/related topics will include progress on the understanding of sunspot weighting, calibration of the sunspot area time series, the distribution of sunspots during the most recent solar minimum, new results on the Livingston-Penn effect, an update on the relationship between the SSN and F10.7, correlation of cosmic ray and geomagnetic data with the sunspot number, and sunspot measurement from space.

To help us to set the workshop agenda, please let us know which topic you would like to discuss or see emphasized or if there are new topics that you would like to see included. A tentative title of your presentation (or presentations) will enable us to schedule the appropriate amount of time for each for each topic. Please send us your input by 24 September. We will send out a preliminary agenda in mid-October. Skype will be available for those who cannot attend in person.

An excursion during the workshop is planned for Kitt Peak.
